The Fishriver Canyon is one of the deepest canyons on the African continent. While not as gigantic as the Grand Canyon (USA) or the Colca Canyon (Peru) is remains impressive and a true desert experience ... a hot one that is. If you're gonna hike it do yourself a favor and prefer the winter months. Even then the canyon can be brutally hot around noon time so be prepared for that. It is also a good idea to contact the local ranger about the water situation. The good thing about the weather is ... it never rains. Well, almost, so it usually isn't necessary to carry a tent. Namibia may sound like big predator's country but it is reasonably safe in the Canyon. Eventually you may meet a snake or a scorpion but then that's normal in all desert areas. Typical for most canyon hikes it is not overly difficult ... once your down at the bottom. The way down can be a little steep but should be easily doable for most hikers.
The canyon is located near the border to South Africa about 650km south of Windhoek and fairly accessible with a good infrastructure around. There're camps near the start and just right at the end of the trek. Obviously it is a one-way tour so you will need some kind of shuttle.
The trek can be hiked in a 85km or 100km variant and takes something between 3-5 days depending on your fitness and if you want to push it or not.
