The West-Coast-Trail (WCT) is another of the classic treks. It is frequently described as one of the best and most difficult trek in North America. As so often the physical level is quite overblown though - with a good level of fitness and a reasonably sense of balance it is easily doable by most hikers. The most strenuous aspects of the trail are some never-ending passages with tree roots all over the place and some slippery underground. The trek is also renowned for numerous ladders and bridges but this "rustic" character is actually most of the fun here! There're no mountains to climb on the trek - usually it is about continuous (mild) ups and downs with some nice beach passages.

Besides these "spicy" challenges the trail rewards you with superb vistas of the Canadian west coast with all its glory (breathtaking sunsets, coastal wildlife inc. whales!, beaches) and some deep dark tempered rain-forest. If you`re lucky you may even spot a (rare) bear.

There're no technical difficulties so the trail is even good as a family adventure and if you prefer to do it with comfort there`re also some commercial tour organizers with various service levels. The vast majority of the trekkers prefer to do it themselves simply because it is so easy to organize. There aren't really any reliable places to re-stock your food so you have to plan accordingly. A tent is another must-have as is serious rain-gear - remember: there`s rain forest up there for reasons ...

Due to the popularity there`s a permit system in place so you have to book your place well in advance (plan in months not weeks). The trail head and tail are well serviced by public buses from nearby Victoria which is the perfect base to start the trip.
