Havasu Canyon is a magical place ... at least if you would enjoy the place without the others. :-) It is a side-canyon of the Grand Canyon and part of the Havasupai Indian Reserve. There're many canyons around here but the thing that makes this one so special are the stunning waterfalls. They're no overly high but their blue-green water and embedded the dramatic landscape they almost appear to be surreal. It is a fairly short and easy hike (16km one-way) into the canyon from the parking area on the upper rim. You descent about 700m till reaching the Supai village and the following campground which is situated just below the first falls. Going further down the canyon you can find a couple more but there're two bigger ones. The pools are great for swimming after a hot desert day. Ascending back to the canyon rim is obviously a little more strenuous. This is private Indian land so it is required to book the campground as well as a permit. If you want to do it in comfort there's also a lodge in Supai village.
