The Overland Track is probably the most renowned trek in down under and
for reasons naturally. It traverses the Lake St. Claire National Park
in the center of Tasmania - an almost Jurassic, fascinating landscape (the BBC`s "Walking with Dinosaurs" was filmed in part here).
Along the way you will find deep Eucalyptus forests, some swampy areas and vast green planes within a bizarre surrounding mountain scenery plus some idyllic lakes. The track has a rustic character but it's generally an easy walk unless the very varying weather has different plans for you. The trail access is very well organized from Tassie`s major cities. As to be expected the National Park service has a permit system in place to limit the masses on the trail so better care about yours are soon as possible. Thanks to these regulations you will still be able to experience some solitude here and there.
