The Queen Charlotte Track is another popular hike at the northern end of the NZ's South Island. Most of the time it follows the crest of the coastal mountains often providing vast vistas of the surrounding inlets of the Marlborough Sounds with its dark to azure blue waters.
There're (water-)shuttles available in Picton which will drop you in Ship Cove (Resolution Bay), the starting point of your trip. From here it is a 3 day walk back on very good forest trails. For the night you descent down to the ocean level where you can either enjoy a cabin or set up your tent. Initially you walk in rather deep coastal forests whereas to the end the track becomes more exposed - it can be very hot here in summer time so make sure to take a hat and sunscreen. As already hinted the trail is broad and easy to follow but regarding its principal layout, that is often following the mountain crests and the camps at the ocean, there are several ups and downs which may be a little strenuous at times especially when it is hot. In Anakiwa you can take a bus back to Picton.
