Wilsons Promontory National Park, or the "Prom" as it is called by the locals, is located in the immediate vicinity of Melbourne. Consequently it is a busy place especially during the holidays. The peninsula is a coastal wilderness with granite headlands, forests, fern gullies and stunning beaches. The 44km circuit trail located in the very south of the park offers a good cross section of these features. All you need to do is to obtain a permit for campsites. Starting in Tidal River it takes about 3 days to complete the circuit but if you want to enjoy the beach life and some extra detours it is easily good enough for a day or two more. Hiking the trail is very easy and even suitable as a family adventure.
